Smoke Rise Morning Glories

Smoke Rise Morning Glories

The March 10 meeting of The Smoke Rise Morning Glories Garden Club was held at 11 A.M. at Michael David’s Restaurant in Stone Mountain.

The meeting was called to order by President Judi Crutchfield. Judi advised members that a petition was available for signatures of those supporting Smoke Rise Elementary School as a charter school. She thanked Marsha Pittard and Glenndolyn Hallman for their help with her on cleaning up the Rosser Road triangle entrance. Marilyn Hug thanked Marsha Pittard and Diane Christian for decorating the Easter egg pockets that will be provided for Central State Hospital. Judi Crutchfield introduced Joyce Ray, member and Past President. Joyce used the children’s story ‘Stone Soup’ as a basis for installing the officers in the jobs they have taken. Each officer was presented with a stone that was hand painted with a vegetable that signifies the responsibility of their jobs and how they contribute to the club.

New officers are: Marian Fetzek, President; Marsha Pittard, 1st V.P.; Susan Morrison, 2nd V.P.; Carol Ann Culpepper, Rec. Secretary; Nancy Brandau, Corr. Secretary; Joy Zaidan, Treasurer; Glenndolyn Hallman, Parliamentarian

Glenndolyn Hallman thanked Judi Crutchfield for her two years of service as President and presented her with gift on behalf of the members.

SMOKE RISE GARDEN CLUB

The installation of the Smoke Rise Garden Club officers took place at the Eagle's Landing Restaurant, Saturday, March 7. Out-going president Edith Morton gave her president's report. Among the many accomplishments of the club these past two years were the landscaping of several Habitat for Humanity homes and the continued beautification of the corners in the Smoke Rise community. Edith Morton and Wilma Coney presented herbs to each new officer to signify and inspire the duty of each office. Life membership in the DeKalb County Federation of Garden Clubs was presented to Erma Miller, charter member of Smoke Rise Garden Club. Cynthia Miller-Ziegler, Erma's daughter was present. Smoke Rise Garden Club is proud to announce that two of our members have been elected as Federation officers - Wilma Coney as President and Edith Morton, 4th Vice President of the DeKalb County Federation of Garden Clubs. The installation luncheon was at Callanwolde on March 26th.

Anyone interested in attending one of our meetings or joining the club, please call Sue Chandler at 770-938-2218. Our club meets on the first Monday of the month at 7 PM and the programs presented are helpful in the care and preservation of our gardens and community. The evening meetings provide an opportunity for working women and mothers to avail themselves of these informative programs.
